  1. One option that would be really neat, is to have the option to save the results of a query so I can compare the two sets side by side without having to drop them into Excel. e.g. run a query, tag it for archive, then after a time run the query again. And I'd have two Results Tabs in the output window. Results and Results(0). If that could be extended to multiple results windows, it would give me a simple way to track changes over time. And lastly, if tagged, the results would restore with the tab.

  2. TH knows the instance and DB the tab was connected to. Often, SSMS/SQL Prompt forget upon SSMS shut-down and fire-up the next day, to reconnect. (Happened 2020-10-02, so a current problem on just 4 tabs, when I often have a dozen open).

Select one or more from any of the lists ==> right-click ==> new option to "Reconnect to saved instance-DB", or "Connect all to an Instance" (Problem with that is the default to master means we likely have to visit every tab anyway - unless RG gives us a better version of the Connect dialog! Where it connects and…

  3. Can the tab history window, when maximized, be made to consider the maximum screen size when it's popped out?
I have monitors that have different resolutions and if I pop it out on my smaller screen it doesn't fit and I loose the top of the screen with the search and tabs - but most annoyingly that also means I loose the window bar so can't control the size either!

  4. Add an option to filter what tabs are moved into history.

    • SSMS autogenerated queries are of no interest.
    • So are simple DML and EXEC[UTE] queries consisting of one statement.
    • Successful executed ALTER {PROC|VIEW} are of no interest.

Optionally calculate a query complexity value or class to hide simple queries.

  5. Add a configuration option to automatically delete tabs by age (last executed or tab closed).

Or move them outside the normal tab history (archive them) to speed up the normal history loading and searching.

  6. I use Tab History quite a bit, and I often find myself seeing 2 or more tabs that have the search criteria I'm after. Rather than just being able to click one tab to open it, it'd be nice to be able to select multiple tabs from the history (some or all of the result list). The amount I use it daily and the amount I need to open 2 or more tabs from a search this sort of functionality would save me the repetitive task of performing the same search over and over to get each tab open that…

  7. After doing multiple server migrations, if you open something in tab history that was for one of the previous servers. Sometimes an implicit connection to the server is still used despite not being connected to that server in Object Explorer. This has caused us to have to troubleshoot something that wasn't working anymore when it fact it is just because the connection was the old server. This forces us to copy the SQL statements to Notepad then open a new window and past so that the connection is set to the connected to server. Some kind of warning of this…

  8. I'm a "messy" developer who leaves dozens of tabs open while I'm working on a project, only occasionally doing a bit of a spring clean by closing what I don't need. I only just realised I can do this in Tab History by filtering for Open tabs and right-clicking on a tab entry and choosing Close from the context menu. And I love the fact that I get a preview just by hovering over the name so I can quickly decide whether or not to close each tab.

I would like to see a cross (close) symbol added to the…

  9. I'd like to see a right-click on a tab or the tab-bar and have the option to "reopen closed tab" (and the ability to do that several times through working back through the order the tabs were closed). Same functionality as the major web browsers have.

  10. I use Tab History daily and have come to rely on it to find queries that I thought I was only going to need one time, but end up needing again. It would be great if you could use other things to search instead of just keyword. I would like to be able to select a date or date range (for example, I know I ran that query last month, or 3 months ago) and server (we have multiple servers with the same data sets so it would be nice to be able to filter to the server you know…

  11. I would like a hot key combination to send the contents of my current tab to 'Tab History' without having to close the tab. There are times that I know I will need the contents of the tab in the near future (within a few hours/days) and I don't want to have to save a hard copy to my disk.

  12. sometimes I need same string between different tabs in Tab History. each time I need to copy/paste the desired string. Would be nice if it would remember the most recent used searches same way as any Search box

  13. At the moment to purge old tabs you need to open the tab history window and scroll to a certain point and right click and choose "Remove tabs older than this"

This can be a bit tricky so instead could we have a button (perhaps in options?) that will prompt you for a date and purge items last closed before that date.

  14. There are times when want to be able to reference a specific file name in, for example, bug reports. This option is to allow the selected filename (or filename with path) to be copied so that is can be pasted into other documentation.

  15. I want to be able to keep my tab history open. I am rebuilding a lost development database and using search a LOT, but after I search, find a tab I want to look at more deeply or execute, the window disappears and my search predicate and place in the list of matching tabs is lost, so I have to enter search predicate and scroll back down each time. This is a VERY useful tool, but it would be so much more useful if I could just keep it open.

  16. Tab history grows considerable with tabs that you don't care about. How about a hot key combination so that when the tab is closed it does not add it to history. Example: While holding the ctrl key down I close a tab and this prevents it from being added to history.

  17. Currently it shows the filename and servername, but it would really help to have the datetime of when it was executed. Sorting the columns would be an added benefit as well.

  19. Option to sync/store tab history in the cloud, network share, or online share (aka One drive, Google drive, dropbox, etc.) That way you don't loose your history when you upgrade or change your computer and have to start all over again. It would also be nice to be able to sync between multiple computers.

  20. In SSMS 2016 you can now Pin tabs. When you close and re-open SSMS, it would be good if Tab History could remember, and restore, the pin status for each of the tabs as they are being restored.
