It was only wee but a decade since SQL Server 2012 provided the option of compressed, native SQL Server backups. Red Gate seized the moment and quickly adapted to the 2022-surprise that, given an option to compress native SQL Server backups and conserve expensive disk space, savvy DBAs would utilize this feature of SQL Server 2012 and beyond.
