    Just to be clear, don't just change it so "small" numbers are actually numbers and large numbers that would display as scientific notation are text. ALL numbers need to stay as numbers in Excel.

    Yes, the solution for large numbers displaying as scientific notation is to change the number *formatting* option, which is easy and quick, not to convert the numbers to text. (Which using Excel's feature to convert them back to numbers takes a VERY LONG time for a large spreadsheet, not to mention the pain of going through and picking all the different columns that it would need to be done to.)
