Load suggestions from sql files in Visual Studio/SSDT Projects
Prompt currently needs a database connection to retrieve objects/suggestions from, which it gets from a database project's "Target Connection String".
It would be better if prompt loaded suggestions directly from the sql files in the project without needing the database.

Compare the contents of two tabs as text
I would love to be able to compare the contents of two tabs (maybe by using a third party program that is run on the temp files).
This would save me the time of having to save them down to files before using a tool like diffmerge or...
Please consider this!

Intellisense for Linked Server connection to MySQL ODBC
I have been using SQL Prompt for awhile and one of the best feature I like about it is the fact that Intellisense works even on Linked Server to other MSSQL databases.
Recently however, I have set up Linked server to MySQL ODBC connections and I noticed that Intellisense is no longer returning the table names and column names in the predictive boxes.
I then tested this to other ODBC connection. I set up Firebird (DB2) and Oracle and Intellisense seems to be working for these (only for table names, not columns but that's better than nothing).

Improved Tab Navigation
Provide a better tab list for navigation than the one supplied by SSMS when there are many tabs open, for instance a resizable "navigation" window (or even a navigation tab) that easily allows filtering/grouping by server instance, database, user defined, etc.
As a complement to grouping tabs would be to allow naming, saving, closing, and opening of a "tab group" - related queries/script files that do not make up an SSMS "project" but are used for a particular purpose or go against a particular database, etc (user determines grouping criteria, see above). Replace all tabs with spaces
Setting the option to use spaces instead of tabs for intending (our house policy) only works for new tab presses.
I would like a simple action that would replace all tabs in the current document with spaces -- using the tab-to-spaces value as set in options. Sublime Text has this and I use practically every time I edit anything.57 votes -

Smart Rename to change case
sometimes I need to just change the casing of letters in a field name (e.g. a field has GUID and I want to make it Guid). smart rename does not allow me to change the name if the new name is exactly the same saying that a column with this name already exists.
so I change the name to GuidXXXX and then on the generated script remove the XXXX and the script runs just fine.
I think smart rename should not warn that the name exists if I am just changing casing of the name

Dockable Summarize Script window that allows select/run of script blocks.
Summarize script is sort-of useful as a way to see script blocks easily, but it will be BRILLIANT if it was a dockable (not modal) window that you very quickly select the script blocks in the editor.
I often select parts of a script or subqueries to run - if Summarize Script automatically selected them for me it would be a huge productivity boost: 1-click selection + F5 = AWESOME!

Choose to have ALTER instead of CREATE scripts
When I hover over an object and get the pop-up script for that object (proc/view/function) I would like the ability to have the script default to ALTER instead of CREATE.
99.9% of the time I manually have to edit the Create to be an Alter, this would save SO MUCH time.

Find all occurrences of your search string in the results in datagrid mode. I know I should and could do this in SQL but sometime it is handle to find the customers name in a large set of rows.

Add Excel Like Gripd To Results Options
Add to the Results To options an Excel Like grid that presents the results i8n a grid but allows for Excel like functuionality without re-executing the query.
I often am sending my data (via copy & paste) to Excel for aditional reserahc because the query takes a long time to run and I alrady have the core data I needd, I just need to fin tune it bu re-sorting or even re-aggregating the data differently.
It wulod be a killer plus if Microsoft simply reaplced the existing SSMS Grid with a mini-version of Excel but since Thats not likely any…

convert SQL to a vbb (or c#) string statement
in toad you can get it to convert a SQL statement into a VB or C# statement. i.e. if you have
select * from atable
where a = 'FREE'this would be converted to
SQL = "select * from atable"
sql =sql & "where a = 'FREE'"this is then pasted into the clipboard

Organize objects in SSMS with a folder stucture
The reason I would like to see the folders is strictly for organizational purposes. I have so many procedures and tables in one database that I have to scroll through them all to find what I’m looking for. If I could organize by schema (or however I choose) and very quickly and jump back and forth between the different folders, that would help me out tremendously. The SQL filter function is so slow when going back and forth.
What if I could organize sql instances that I'm connected to in one SSMS. Production and Development folders?? Just another thought.

Auto generated INSERT needs a column blacklist
Add the ability to exclude columns from appearing in the auto-generated INSERT statements. I have to manually remove certain columns every time.

Please include support for Extended Events in SQL Prompt
Extended Events is a great feature in SQL Server. Without support for this in SQL Prompt makes it incomplete.

Change quote completion behavior within Openquery or dynamic SQL strings
I really like auto quote completion, but when I am working with an openquery statement or dynamic sql where I am having to escape quotes by doubling them up, I find myself fighting the "helpful" behavior of quote completion either refusing to add a second quote or it adds too many quotes.
So, my suggestion is that the quote completion feature check to see if you are trying to add quotes within a quoted string and change its behavior to either not do quote completion or to (even better) automatically add escaped quotes.To illustrate the problem and my proposed…
