  2. Let me start by saying that we've been successfully integrating Red Gate SQL compare Pro with different source control systems even before the initial release of SQL Source Control became available.
I finally now got a chance to evaluate the product (shared db model, TFS) and I believe it has several shortcomings that would make it difficult for me to justify paying for extra licenses for each developer working on the project.

    1. Commits are painfully slow.
Even if I only change one object, it takes me 2 minutes to bring up the dialog to commit this change. If understand the…

    I’m declining this because it’s 2 suggestions in 1.

For 1, please vote on http://redgate.uservoice.com/forums/39019-sql-source-control/suggestions/462220-don-t-refresh-the-commit-get-latest-automatically.

For 2, SQL Source Control v3.3 now checks TFS policies on commit. :-) You can find out more information at http://redgate.uservoice.com/forums/39019-sql-source-control/suggestions/726952-evaluate-tfs-policies-rules-when-committing-db-c.

  3. SSC 3.1.0.4829
    SQL Server 10.50.4000
    Shared model

After adding an extended property to a table the recognition and the commit work fine. But after having committed the changes the table will be remarked as having pending changes in the object explorer of SSMS. In the commit changes tab there are no changes to commit which is correct.

Maybe also extended properties with other objects are affected.

This looks like something we’d prefer to handle as a bug report than a feature request – if you are still experiencing this problem, please email support@red-gate.com with the details.

  5. I'm working with a package which generates T-SQL to manage a complex object database implemented in SQL Server. One query, saved with Profiler, was over 200 pages when pasted into WORD. Once in a while these queries fail, and testing in SSMS is useful. I would like PROMPT to format the query as far as it can, rather then check for errors and then fail with no formatting.

  7. The git integration does not seem to work AT ALL. Add reports status code 1, delete fails because the file has already been deleted.

We believe the Git integration is working for most customers – if you are encountering error messages, our support team at support@red-gate.com should be able to get you up and running again.

  8. I think the toolbar should be named something other than 'Red Gate' - all the other RG toolbars have meaningful names : 'SQL Search', 'SQL Tab Magic'

  9. If you have only the SQL Source control product, you can use it to upgrade your production SQL server database. But if you switch to Azure SQL, you lose this capability. I think the option to generate upgrade scripts that are Azure compatible would be great!

We do not recommend connecting a production database to SQL Source Control. We recommend using SQL Compare for deployment and you can deploy to Azure databases with SQL Compare.

  10. issue when adding a table with static data to SVN. Gives a System.OutOfMemoryException error.
Created a new SVN folder and re-linked to the new folder. I then setup the static data one-by-one (apart from the table with the large amounts of static data). All of them worked fine. I then added the table with the large static data and I still got the OutOfMemoryException. Please advise on what can be done.

  11. I have msysGit installed (from GitExtensions). And somehow the cgywin-mapping of the folder does not work in RedGate SQL Sourcecontrol:

    Command:
    git commit -F "C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\nt4wfooh.nsc.txt" -o "C:\GitFolder\"

    Output:
error: pathspec 'C:\GitFolder\' did not match any file(s) known to git.

  12. I am trying to get this setup on a proprietary database system. There are hundreds of SPROCS, VIEWS, etc that are created WITH ENCRYPTION -- objects that are created WITH ENCRYPTION should be ignored since theres no way to decrypt them.

Ryan, we’ll contact you directly to check over a couple of things relating to this error. Thanks!

  15. When using SourceGear Vault when we create a branch for different development fork we may need to rename the folder. At present there is not a way to edit the link to the folder. We have to unlink and relink the database. If the folder is not found it would be nice to have a way to browse to an existing folder.

  16. Currently the XML hooking method for non-native Source Control Systems is not very usefull for Surround SCM. I would like to suggest maybe adding more support to it. Also when linking a database to the Source Control System It would be nice to have the option to link tables, stored procedures, views..so on to specific repositories, instead of everything going into the same place. Also to be able to rename the default folders that the tool creates in the working directory would be nice in case there is a special naming convention(for instance procedures instead of stored procedures). A moule…

I’m declining this because it covers multiple different requests, which makes it difficult to track and work out which features people are voting for. If you’d still like to see these requests addressed, please create new requests for them separately.

  18. Currently when you try and publish static data, it only supports comparing the data in the source database, there is no option to use source control. Can it compare directly with source control and be limited to only the tables that are configured for static data?

  19. I understand a hook can be added to SVN so if a commit is made without a comment it will throw an error and fail - From an interface point of view it would be nice the commit couldn't even be made (i.e. the button was disabled if a "require comments" option was set).

  20. Currently during the link procedure if I just create a new folder and point to that the link will fail with "abort: There is no Mercurial repository here (.hg not found)!" what is fair enough (and "Open Command Prompt..." helps a lot) but I think it would be great it SQL Source Control can automatically resolve this by creating a repo on its own.
