It is possible to select all (ctrl-a), then copy using the right click menu, and paste into Excel, for example.

What you could try is to create a view in database2 that does the necessary join, and map the table against the view. Would that work?

@John - it's possible to exclude object types entirely using the checkboxes. Were you hoping for something different?

@Serge - does this existing filter functionality not work for you?

What source control system are you using? You may be able to configure that to validate a comment for a ticket number, for example.

If you're doing search and replace and want to include multiple objects, one tip would be to use the multi-select ability and script as ALTER ability of the Object Explorer Details pane. I describe this in more detail here: https://www.simple-talk.com/blogs/2012/04/24/ever-wondered-what-the-object-explorer-details-window-is-for/

Are you aware that you can press F12 when the cursor is on an object? This scripts it to a new window as ALTER. The option is also on the context menu when you right click on an object in a query window.

Could you explain a little how you got yourself into the situation where you are undoing a drop to get something that is missing? Understanding the root cause will help us better construct a solution.

Would it be more useful if we put the modify (script as ALTER to a new query window) option in the Commit Tab context menu?

Thanks, Benny. It would help us to know what you mean by "continue working on things" means. What key functions in the Object Explorer are you using once you've found the object there?

This could be a nice idea, but we'd like to understand the problem you'd like to solve. What function in the Object Explorer are you looking to access?

Are you hoping for a way of right clicking on a database in SSMS and finding an option to "Create new database from this one"?

Did that make sense? It's not a simple thing to work out so we're hoping to have this as a built-in option in future. If you have any trouble getting this working, email me at david dot atkinson at red-gate dot com and I'll send you the template file as an attachment.

AdminDavid Atkinson (Product Manager, Redgate) commented  ·

That's because you're technically not interacting directly with Subversion any longer, only a working folder. So the steps are: Select More, then Manage Config Files. Copy one of the existing template files, rename it offlinesubversion (or similar), then edit the file and remove all the commands, which exist between the <CommandLine> tags. Also change the <Name> tag to be "SVN". When you save the file, you'll see a new entry in the dropdown, which you can now select.

Which source control system are you trying to connect to? One approach would be to link using the "More" option, and use a 'blank' commandlinehooks file. This effectively allows you to save changes to a working folder instead of trying to talk to the source control system, leaving you to commit manually at a later date.

The original intent of the double click behavior on the results grid was to do a "Script as ALTER to a new Query Window. However, at the time we didn't know how to do this, and the challenge was to complete the tool in one week (see http://play.buto.tv/sHcbr for more details). We know how to do this now but haven't been able to make the change. If we did, would this be what you need? We would still have "select object in object explorer" as a context menu option.

Sadly we can't as there's no permanent team working on SQL Search. Resource may be allocated to the general SSMS productivity area in the latter half of the year. Personally I'd like to see "script as ALTER" as the default double click action rather than "Select object in Object Explorer", which would be relegated to a context menu. This was the original intention when the tool was designed, but somehow it never happened. I'd also like to see the number of search results as a configurable option. And for non-programmatic objects (eg tables), I'd like to see these scripted out in the lower panel.

Thanks for the request. This is something we're keen on doing, especially as the popularity of the dacpac/bacpac format increases. Please continue voting for this if this is something you're now using. I'd be interested to learn more about what you're using these 'snapshots' for.

Hi – this request was closed when the ‘TFS work items’ feature was released. http://documentation.red-gate.com/display/SOC3/Committing+changes

However, we’re still hearing about this enough that I’d agree with commenter Ben: it should be reopened.

We will continue to gauge interest here on UserVoice. Please do tell us more in the comments about what you expect to be able to do with Work Items in SQL Source Control.

@alex - unfortunately due to finite development resource at our disposal even the simple things have to be prioritized alongside all the very long list of backlog items we have for SQL Source Control. We're trying our best to release as many valuable features as we can! Hope that one day we can meet your requirements!

@Anonymous - we hope to put this into v4 but this isn't due out until next year. In the meantime you can use the #R and #A syntax to do the association. Or alternatively you can use SQL Connect.

AdminDavid Atkinson (Product Manager, Redgate) commented  ·

The 'started' was referring to the #R #A workaround. We're still keen to implement a work-item chooser dialog, although I wouldn't think it would be implemented before the second half of the year. Could you try using SQL Connect for this? This allows you to sync from your database to a VS project, which means you can associate with workitems in the normal way when you check in. SQL Connect works against the same repository as SQL Source Control. It's in preview at the moment: http://www.red-gate.com/products/sql-development/sql-connect/

@Remi - the #A and #R codes in the comment is the only mechanism for now. We are hoping to add a UI around this at some point, but we have no firm timescales just yet.

We have a Beta build of SQL Compare that works with SSDT database projects.

    http://www.red-gate.com/EAP/SQLCompareEAP/SQLCompareVS

After we get some feedback on this, we'll integrate the technology into SQL Source Control, which will mean the tools should play nicely with each other. As SQL Source Control uses the SQL Compare engine under the hood, it's very important for you all to let us know if it works for you, so we know what needs fixing before integrating with with SQL Source Control itself. Email any feedback directly to me at David.Atkinson@red-gate.com

Is continuous integration the only thing that you want from VS database projects? If so, we have more information about how to set up continuous integration and Red Gate tools at www.red-gate.com/ci .If this isn't quite what you are looking for I'd like to understand what your needs are (I've emailed you directly).

If you feel that you still need database project support, please let us know why! http://www.red-gate.com/products/sql-development/sql-connect

@John - we'll definitely notify everyone if/when we do. In the meantime we're keen to get feedback on SQL Connect and whether this would be a useful extension to Visual Studio. I'd encourage all those who have posted to this forum to take a look and provide feedback - the more use engagement, the easier it is for us to justify database project support! http://www.red-gate.com/products/sql-development/sql-connect/
