How can we improve our Oracle solution?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Roaming Profiles

    Please don't save the parameters like ConnectionStore.xml and LinkedDatabases.xml in the LocalApp-dir in the Userprofile.
    We have activated roaming profiles and die LocalApp-Dir doesn't save and load again, if I logoff and logon on another computer.

  2. Visual Studio extension

    We use TOAD extension for Visual Studio. The one nice thing about that tool is that it integrates the database project with our solution (and TFS), and offers a way to Deploy the database from the scripts that the TOAD extension creates (tables, procedures, etc). It also has a way to run a pre and post deployment scripts. Would be fanstatic if the redgate tools had this as well.

  3. Share project with others

    It would be convenient to be able to share source control projects with other users. Without this you either have to only have one person managing the sync between the database and source control system or each person has to create a project on their machine with the same settings.

    In 2019, we launched Redgate Change Control, our migrations-based versioning tool, which has a way to Open a project that you get from version control. We’re working to merge these tools together and have 1 tool for versioning database changes. When we do this, we’re hoping to make sharing projects with others easier.

  4. Show change date/time.

    If changes can occur in both the source and on the database directly, it would be helpful to know which was updated last and when.

  5. Make Get Latest and Check in tabs buttons.

    Why should the direction of update have to be selected by a tab? Why not have just one view with two buttons, one for "Apply to Source" and the other for "Apply to Database"?

  6. Allow Deployment wizard the ability to list or disable Foreign Key constraints

    When running the deployment wizard after a data compare rather throw error that database contains foreign keys in a cycle. It would be great if it listed the ones and allow you to disable them.

    The Linux cmdlines for Schema Compare for Oracle, Data Compare for Oracle, and Code Analysis for Oracle are now available on Linux. These can be downloaded from https://documentation.red-gate.com/dso.

    We are also working on merging our Source Control for Oracle tool (our state-based database versioing tool) with Redgate Change Control (our mibrations-based database versioinng tool) to handle all your database versioning needs. This will be available on Linux.   8. Formatting...

    Without wishing to start a religious war, am I really alone in disliking all-caps formatting for keywords? I don't want to be shouted at when looking at scripts ... and in our modern era of editors with colour coding it's unnecessary.

    And the use of quotes for column names when it's not necessary?

    And the inclusion of "NULL" for table columns when it could be left out?

    And, for readability, I normally format table creation scripts (and others) so the column names line up, the column types line up, the "not null" clauses (if present) line up, etc.
