  1. Currently Tab Colors applies only on the Query tabs. It's much better to
apply on schema-updating tabs too. Tabs such as Table/View designer or even Red-Gate SQL Source Control tab :)

    Thanks for your suggestion Reza!

We have already implemented this in the latest version of SQL Prompt so if you upgrade then both the table and view designers should have their tabs colored in the same way as queries. If they’re not being colored after upgrading to SQL Prompt 7.2 then you may have hit a bug so please do let me know.

  2. Would be useful if tab coloring supported wildcards
    eg *.sql = production
    *.dev = development etc

    Hi Nigel,

Wildcards are already supported for tab coloring in the latest version of Prompt. Just use a * for the wildcard in either the server or database column on the tab color options page. If you’re having any problems with this, please send me an email: aaron.law@red-gate.com

  3. Had this discussion with some folks at work today. SSMS Toolspack does tab coloring but it places a color band across the entire width of the query editor while SQL Prompt's tab coloring only colors the tab. The whole line is a much more obvious reminder. Be great if SQL Prompt did a similar thing. I realize Tab coloring is an experimental feature still.

  4. As for now, it appears that query tab coloring only is based on instance. In smaller environments, it is not uncommon to see for instance both production, test and stage in the same instance. As for now, Query Tab Coloring does not work very well in such scenarios.
