jump to search text
In the old version, the display window of the selected object would jump right to the instance of the search term. Version 2 does not do this, it makes it less useful than the old version.
I looked to see if it was an optional feature, but I couldn't find any options to adjust.

Preview table contents in the bottom pane where SP previews are shown.
The preview pane under the search results is wasted space when searching for tables.
Tables should be previewed like SPs when highlighted in the search results, either the top n rows, or even just a list of columns in the table would be more useful.

banner
Remove the banner "ad" at the bottom of the window when other RedGate products installed. I don't need a reminder to "Learn about RedGate essential SQL Server productivity tools for the DBA..." when I already have them installed and am using them

Support for Umlaut respectively mutated vowel
We use german notation for database objects. For example a table could be named "Übersetzung". So you have the umlaut "Ü" in it. The SQL Search neglect this.
It would be nice if SQL Search would support mutated vowels or minimum give a hint, that this is not supported.
Thanks

allow text copy in the result panel
After searching we try to copy some text (for example the stored procedure name) in the result panel. This fails with the error: "unsaved documents cannot be cut or copied to the clipboard...." (alert box)
112 votesHere are the steps to fix this SSMS issue:
- Restart SSMS
- Go to Tools → Options
- Expand “Environment” on the left and click the “Documents” item
- De-select “Show Miscellaneous files in Solution Explorer”
- Click OKIn order for this to be effective, either restart Management Studio or close/save any unsaved query windows (after which point, new, unsaved query windows should not cause this problem any more)

To be able to select 2 or more object like Table and Views to search for, not to all or to only 1
My idea is to search for the objects beginning with LPrg, but I want to have in the list only tables, views and SP, not index, tigers and so on.
You combo box offer only All, only Tables, only views and so on, but there no option to select for example Table and Views. If I understand correct, the idea of SQL Search is to reduce time gone for navigation, but with this miss of option I’m lost between tigers, indexes and so on. They are 3 times more in numbers then Tables, views and SP. I need just table, views…

Provide the column name when the match is a column
At this time it just shows column match, but not the name of the column, making this only partially useful for detail on the column name and type I am searching for.

Allow OR/AND/NOT Searches
Allow searches using any combination of AND/OR/NOT and parens. A minus in front of a keyword works for NOT, like Google does.

Option to search jobs
Frankly very surprised Version 1.0 didn't have this. Doesn't even seem like it would be a feature consideration. If you have a search tool, shouldn't it be expected to search the entire SQL Server, not just part of it? I wonder how many people assume it searches jobs, which after all are stored in a system database, and never realize they may be missing some references?

Remember the location of the SQL Search toolbar
Is there any way to make SSMS remember where the SQL Search toolbar is placed? Every time I start SSMS, SQL Search takes up an entire toolbar slot above my other two toolbars. I'd rather have it alongside the others leaving more screen real estate for scripts, etc

Let me configure the maximum number of results returned
I understand the reasoning behind limiting the search results to 150 results, but it would be useful to have the ability to change this as needed.
141 votesThank you for this suggestion. the new v2 release of SQL Search now allows you to lift the per-database limit for each search.
The default limit is 500 results per database, However, it is also possible to configure this limit by following these steps:
On 64-bit systems, create the registry key
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Red Gate”
if it does not already exist and
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Red Gate\SQLSearch 2”
if it does not already exist.Create the following DWORD (32-bit) value
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Red Gate\SQLSearch 2\ResultsLimit”
and set its data to what you wish the results limit to be (note that the registry editor works with Hexadecimal by default, so you may wish to change the base to Decimal when setting the value data).
On 32-bit systems, create the registry key
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Red Gate”
if it does not already exist and
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Red Gate\SQLSearch 2”
if it does not already…
- Don't see your idea?
