Improve Generated scripts when databases are in the same instance
I would like that the generated scripts, when databases are in the same instance, can be optimized.
If I compare two tables based on their PK and then I want to insert all the "IDs" that do not exists, instead of having one INSERT INTO statement per record, we can could have:
INSERT INTO destination
SELECT <all columns>
FROM source
<WHERE ID IN/BETWEEN/= too if just specific records>On cases where all records are new, this can make the script goes from multiple MB to a couple of KBs.
It will be faster to generate, easier for the GUI to open and deal with it.

Add support for Entra ID + MFA Authentication to Command Line
While the UI supports Entra ID + MFA authentication, the command line does not. We have several scripts run by individuals that require using SQL Data Compare from the command line to interact with an Azure SQL DB, so we're asking that Entra ID + MFA authentication be supported in the command line rather than just falling back to Integrated auth (which oftentimes is disabled).
The same request makes sense for SQL Compare as well.

Map taget/source to individual tables in Data Compare
I have a development environment and a production (LIVE) environment.
In most cases I want to copy data from Prod to Dev in order to simulate the clients setup (for bughunting and late stage development). But some tables that I use for general setup I want to only move from Dev to Prod. E.g., I have a list of financial accounts, I want to be able to assign a colour to an account. I create a static table for this purpose, I then add 'Green' and 'Red'. Currently I would need two different files, one for comparing the 'accounts' table, and one for comparing the 'colours' table.
What I would like is on the colours table in Data Compare to be able to switch direction. I would make a Data Compare file called 'Prod->Dev', which generally copies to Dev. Then in the settings I would set the 'colours' table to compare Dev->Prod, so only this/these tables are synchronized in the opposite direction from the main setup.
When my clients later add a new account in Prod, it should be copied to Dev, but thay however cannot add new colours, I do that in Dev, so when I add 'Yellow' and I then run my entire Data Compare file 'Prod->Dev', it should not be deleted in Dev, but rather get copied to Prod.

Have option to show selected tables
After you select the Tables & Views tab in the compare dialog, could there be an option to only see the selected tables that you pre-selected when doing the original compare? Currently, you have to scroll through the list of tables (1200+ tables in my database) to see which of the 3 were originally selected. I realize you can search for the tables, but I was asked which tables were selected and couldn't find an easy way to show that.

Add ability to exclude column from comparison, but keep it in the output for review. It is useful for excluding columns like timestamps, app names, user names who modified records, since they add noise, but seeing them is useful to understand the source of the differences.

This query is used on both Database and the Database Snapshot.
Why do you need to convert if the data types are the same?

Variables in Where Filters
Using SQL Data Compare I sometimes save projects with dozens of tables mapped out, and where clause filters. Using a multi-tenant database, I often find I need to limit the results to those that have a specific CompanyId or something similar, and I want to be able to run the project for different values quickly. It would be very helpful if I could define a variable in the project ...
e.g. @myCompanyId uniqueidentifier = '00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000';
then use that in my where clauses so I only have to update it in one place when it is used in dozens of places..

Last Action Indicator
I use SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare and am often multi-tasking while running things. When I get back to the product, I can't remember if the results being shown are after a compare finished, or after I deployed differences.
I would like to suggest an indicator, icon, or bar be included in the display to tell me the last step that was run by the tool (e.g. Compare Completed, Deployment to [left | right] completed, etc...), or maybe a summary of the last step (compare completed #### differences found, ##,### records added | updated | deleted on 5/6/2024 2:14 pm ) etc.
I don't think it would be all that difficult, but would make for a much better user experience so I don't have to re-compare because I can't recall if I only compared, or if I already deployed the differences.

Option to use the default value or empty string for a NOT NULL column in the target DB that contains NULLs in the source DB
If the target DB has some columns that don't allow NULLs, but they did in the source DB, the inserts fail as it tries to insert NULL.
I think there should be a configurable option to make it either use the default value of the column or an empty string in place. As part of the insert the script could be ISNULL(ColumnName, 'DefaultValue').

Allow to compare source and target fields
We very often need a way to find new and updated entries in 1 DB and copy them over to the other DB. For that it would be very handy to have a way in the WHERE clause to compare the source and target field, e.g. like this:
Source.Created > Target.Created

Make SQL Data Compare respect the "do not use transactions" setting
The use case for this may be a bit odd but I've had a very big compare to do today - refreshing takes nearly an hour.
Now I'm putting the data from 20 or so tables into another. Trying to pass the contents of all the tables in one transaction blows out the server logs, it's just too many rows.
However, turning off the "use transactions in deployment scripts" option is ignored until I refresh the data. That means waiting nearly an hour before SQL Data Compare will respect the value in the project settings.
That really doesn't make any sense to me. Can you make it so that the value of the setting is reflected every time I press the "deploy" button, rather than the "refresh" button?

Ignore varchar/nvarchar differences.
We'd love the ability to be able to ignore varchar/nvarchar differences between databases. We have separate databases that are essentially the same, except all varchars are nvarchar to support unicode.
At the moment, we cannot use SQL Compare to compare the two databases, as every Table/SPR/UDF comes up with changes.

Delete all rows or Truncate of target table
to make a green field before compare. Mostly i use Data compare to refresh data from the live system to the dev/qa/... which is sometimes a mess. So i have to clear the target tables by hand before.
This could be done in a global switch in "Edit project" -> "Options" but during the Deploy workflow I would remind the user and let him uncheck if required.
Or at least make a clipboard copy for the scheme.tablename from the result window to make a manual truncate easier.

Ignore a column during comparison (BLOB) but include in Deploy
We have certain tables with BLOBs (varbinary(max)) which takes ages to compare between two databases. But if i exclude this column for comparison, it wont appear in the deploy, which will fail (in my case) caus its "NOT NULL" column.
In short:
make an option to ignore columns on compare, but keep in deploy.4 votes -
Add sort by selected in Dialog "Edit project" under "Tables & views"
Its time consuming to scroll down to find the 5 checked tables within 400 tables in total. Please create some kind of a group/sort to show the selected on top or provide another toggle checkbox to show only the selected ones or all

i would like to have a continuous behavior throughout the whole application regarding "Escape" -> Cancel and "RETURN" -> Accept.
