  3. Time Date Field shows difference due to different formatting - Not easy to work out whether the source and target are identical. Seems like all rows are highlighted.

Hi there – this sounds like SDC-2485 (Datetime format in results pane is not consistent) which we think we’ve released a fix for in SQL Data Compare 12.3.0.4373 . Could you check out that version and verify if it does what you expect?

  6. In prior versions when a where clause was created for a table an icon appeared next to the table name indicating a where clause had been applied. The icon no longer appears and when working with multiple tables at once it can be difficult to remember which tables have a where clause applied to them without having to reopen the where clause screen.

Thanks for the feedback – we’ve added where clause icons again in 12.0.32.3340

  7. When in the xml project file a new table is not available and the table exists in the database sql datacompare now automatically compares this table.

For a lot of user tables this is not the expected behaviour.
It would be nicer, if the user can configure if 'unknown' tables will be automatically compared or not.

So please add a setting that new tables are not included in the compare automatically.

  8. It would be nice to be able to compare on different column names.

  9. Automatically undisplay columns that show no differences what so ever (indicated by not highlighting the columname)
when inspecting a comparison without recalculating the entire thing. I am bothered about a huge number of columns without interesting
information, beacuse they don't contain differences at all.
I only want to focus on the few columns containing the differences (i.e. indicated as colour highlight on the column name field).
Manual deselection for over 100 columns is not practical.

  10. Sometimes when viewing row differences, you see a column with differences that appears to be unimportant. It would be nice that you can right-click on this column and have the possibility to ignore that column. In the current system, you have to go to 'Edit Project' -> tab Tables & views -> find the table -> alter 'Columns in Comparison' -> Click dropdown button to get a list of all columns of that table -> scroll to the column you want to leave out of the comparison -> deselect it -> recompare.

  11. Similar to the option to suppress identical rows, I'd like to suppress columns that are identical on both systems. Especially when comparing tables in a DW environment where we may have 10s-100s of columns I'd rather not scroll across the 100 columns that are identical in order to find the one columns where we have differences.

Our primary Data Compare application is to validate data changes in th DEV/QA system by comparing against the good PROD data. These comparisons typically involve large tables (100s of columns, millions of rows)

Thanks for your report. I’ve updated the link to the correct SQL Data Compare forum URL.

  13. Like for example Visual Studio, with options to create new project, open project plus a list of recently opened projects. The current behaviour (automatically open -- but do not run -- most recently used project) is counter-intuitive because, seeing a list of servers to pick, I expect it to have started a new project and proceed to trash my existing project!

The project list page available as an alternate startup mode described by David Atkinson already provides this functionality – if this isn’t working for you, please submit a new, more specific request!

  14. This was already discussed on the Red Gate forums in 2007:
    http://www.red-gate.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=5875

As of SQL Data Compare 9.1.0.365, the problem still exists.

    From the forum thread:

    """
I find that very often, a column containing floating point numbers will show as different [in SQL Data Compare], even though visual inspection of the results [in SQL Server Management Studio] shows that it is the same.
    """

It's difficult to know if the data in the float column has actually changed, or if it's just SQL Data Compare making an innacurate comparison.

It reduces my confidence that the data has been synchronized…
