  2. I want to change the setting that opens up the most recent project when I launch data compare or compare. Too often I start editing the most recent compare unintentionally. On launch I want a new project open every time. The user should have control over this behavior.

In the ‘My Projects’ window there is a checkbox at the bottom left to always show this screen at start up. From here you can select ‘New…’ to launch a new project.

It’s not quite launching a new project by default, but that is only a single click away.

  3. When comparing tables, additions/changes in indexes are included as part of the differences to the table. I would like a way to separate index management from table management. In other words, it would be nice to be able to select a table for modification without including the indexes. I know we can do this from a project level with settings, but if there are many tables selected for change, I would like to be able to include the indexes for some tables and not others. Also, it would be nice to be able to select individual indexes on a given…

Thanks for providing feedback on this and sorry for the late response here. We currently have no plans to update the icon since we want keep our branding consistent across the products based on our design framework Honeycomb. You can find more information on this at http://honeycomb.red-gate.com/brand/.

  6. I would love to have an option to auto-format both sides of the query in SQL Compare to really see the difference between the two regardless of formatting changes

  7. Hi,

We are using SQL Compare extensively in our company department and one of the features we are enjoying is the ability to generate the scriptsfolderxml and migrationsfolderxml on the fly based on which database we want to deploy.

In my view deprecating this feature will leave the product in a degerated state. The option is then to use the /migrationsfolder but first I will have to manually sync the migrations folder from source control and then point to it. Sure it is doable but definitely not preferable.

You should have had an email from our Support people who can help you with bug-related problems – I’ve closed this request because it’s not a single specific feature request, and I hope Support can help with the problems you’re experiencing.

  10. A lot of CMS packages use SQL Compact Edition databases, and it would be really useful to be able to compare those.

  11. script creator should be better aware of dependencies such that creating/altering a view or stored proc only occurs AFTER the underlying table has been updated to include the new dependencies. Currently the differences are scripted properly but just not always in order

This should be happening already – if you have a specific example of it going wrong, can you send email to support@red-gate.com detailing what’s happening?

We know there are still a few cases out there where it doesn’t quite go right, but we’re trying to stamp them out where we find them!

  13. When I am comparing 2 DBs, there are many differences that I want to ignore - is there a way to mark some differences as known so that they can be excluded from comparison when needed

    Hi,

This can be achieved using our new deployment tool, Deployment Manager:
    http://www.red-gate.com/delivery/deployment-manager/

It uses the SQL Compare engine under the hood to do deployments of databases.

We just added the ability to publish databases to Deployment Manager directly from Management Studio:
    http://www.red-gate.com/delivery/deployment-manager/getting-started-with-ssms-addin

I’d be interested in your feedback on how this tool meets your needs.

    Best wishes,

    Justin
