  3. We do not source control database users, but we do source control database roles created and the permission sets granted to them. However, even if users are filtered, to check in the role we must check in role membership as well, which can change in the development environment, and is not the same membership we would want deployed to a downstream server

  4. Okay, this can be VERY serious! I want to discuss this here in case someone else has similar effects: for several months now (i.e. also in earlier SourceControl versions), we had lost check ins! It occurs very seldom and so far, people said "you just forgot to check it in". But now, several people had the same effect that a successfully checked in stored procedure was just lost! The history does not show the change that the user successfully check in! As this occured about 3-5 times in the last months just for my user account, two other people are…

  5. Sometimes after committing changes to source I then want to restore a copy of a production database over the top of my dev db and test the changes by running "Get Latest". It seems that something is cached and there are no changes to get. It would be helpful to have a RECOMPARE button on the setup page that does a full compare of the current DB against source for both schema and static data. This would avoid the work around of unlinking, removing temp folder and relinking.

  6. We are a shop that have multiple systems for clients that we managed from within a single database, using a separate Schema for each system.

I would like to be able to link a TFS database to a filtered list of objects (preferably) an entire schema but I could see where others might like just a subset of other objects.

If this is currently possible please let me know but I do not see a way to accomplish this without having a separate database for each system per client.

  8. I filter out database users in my source control, because I do not want them accidentally deployed to another environment (may not be consistent across all environments). However, I do source control database roles, as many required permission sets are maintained through these roles. However:

    1. Currently it is not possible to check in a database role without also adding the role membership. This should be a configurable option.
    2. When using SQL Compare to deploy from source control, each user that is a member of a source controlled database role shows up as a "Schema" not present in the target database

  9. We use DB triggers to track schema changes. If we use the Undo feature, it disables the triggers and we no longer are able to record the history apart from our source control system. Source Control is great, but we need to know exactly who made changes and when.

  10. When an error occurs, I would like to be able to copy the error message so I can research it. I am unable to select the "complete error message" text so I cannot copy it. It's a simple thing, but it really would be nice to have.

  11. We are using this in an active DW environment. The date of the change would be a helpful SSMS column. We like to see what changed, even in non-checked in work.

  14. Problem:
Sysadmin role is required to see who changed a DB object. I am not permitted to have this role and I would imagine many devs are in the same boat. This means that when many objects have been checked-in by many users it is hard to pick out one’s own changes.
    Solution:
Have an option when checking-in which adds a 1 line encrypted comment to the start or end of each object script. The comment would contain the username of the person making the check-in (and a control parameter like the time of check-in for instance)
    This username can…

  15. Sometimes when I launch SSMS I see the "Source Control Credentials Required" dialog.

    """
Your source control system requires credentials.

Enter the user name and password for the repository:
    """

It's prompting me to update the expired credentials for one of my old development projects.

I don't want to update the credentials right now, but SQL Source Control is very persistent about it.

When I click Cancel, the dialog immediately reappears!

After clicking cancel about 10 times in a row, it finally stops asking.

Can you suppress the dialog on startup?

It would be better to ask only when it…

  17. Would it be possible to add under the Commit-comment field a dropdown or list which shows the data of a TFS-"Team Query"?
We have implemented a "CheckIn"-Query which shows the developer his open Tasks/Bugs/... so that he can just select out of this list while checking in the pending changes.
Entering the IDs manually is annoying and most of the developers don't do it because they have to go to the TFS first, catch the ID go back to SQL Server Management Studio and write the text.
In VisualStudio this works fine - the developers just change the tab and…

  20. I enable in the comparison option to show me any whitespace differences between my source and target.

This changes will be shown by SSC from now as a difference, but not visualized in the comparison window. At least it's showing me that there is difference.

It would be really nice if the differences could be visualized like SQL Compare is doing it.

    Regards
    Robert
