  1. character count

For open script window I'd like to know total character count and character count without spaces tabs and carriage return symbols - similar to MS Word functionality. Would be a big help when measuring code reduction rate (e.g. after refactoring).

    • Extended Event Viewer

      HI Redgate Team,

it would be amazing to get the option to view an extended event target within SSMS in a grid.

      Something like this.

      http://sqlblog.com/blogs/jonathan_kehayias/archive/2010/12/12/an-xevent-a-day-12-of-31-using-the-extended-events-ssms-addin.aspx

      Thanks for looking into this!

      • Include any referenced object in Summarize Script

At the moment we have basic SELECT statement handling in Summarize Script, only showing whether it is a SELECT FROM <table> or SELECT <expression>.

        So a query such as

        USE [AdventureWorks2014]
        GO
        select
(select top 1 emailaddress from Person.EmailAddress),
        dbo.ufnGetPurchaseOrderStatusText(1)
        from Person.Person

        Would only show

        SELECT from Person.Person

Would be useful to also show any tables referenced in a subquery, and also UDFs.

        • Show SELECT INTO within the Summarize Script pane

Within the Summarize Script pane, it would be helpful to differentiate between a SELECT statement (which returns output to the user) and a SELECT INTO statement (which creates a table and loads data into it).

          • in "summarize script", an "if" and its "else" should be on the same level

            This statement:

            IF condition
            ...
            ELSE
            ...

is semantically equivalent to this pair of statements:

            IF condition
            ...
            IF NOT condition
            ...

That's how I think of them. SSMS and SQL Prompt treat them that way; If I use SQL Prompt to format my SQL, and SSMS's "outline statements" feature to collapse regions of code, then an IF/ELSE statement looks like this:

            IF @I = 1
            [+] BEGIN [...];
            ELSE
            [+] BEGIN [...];

The IF block and the ELSE block are treated as two separate IF statements with equal importance. The ELSE keyword lines up with the IF keyword, and…

            • Enhance hover-over pane for a Table Variable to show PRIMARY KEY

When hovering over a Table Variable, it is handy to show the column definitions, but when a PRIMARY KEY has been included in the DECLARE, there's no sign of it.

Only found this when an unexpected PK Violation occurred in a very long SP.

              • Summarize Script by Comments

Allow an option in Summarize script to show summary by comments (for those of us that do a reasonable job of commenting code)! That would be more useful to a developer unfamiliar with specific complex code.

                • Keep selection when closing the "Summarize Script" window

The "Summarize Script" feature is great and helped me many times to navigate large scripts. I like especially the fact that the code is highlighted when I click on different parts of the summary. Unfortunately, the selection vanishes the minute I close the summary window. I don’t know why that is.

Of course the new feature of highlighting matching BEGIN … END helps me find the beginning. Yet, I don’t see the reason why the selection is not longer available after closing the summary window.

Furthermore, I would like to suggest that – in the summary window – you allow…

                  • Dockable Summarize Script window that allows select/run of script blocks.

Summarize script is sort-of useful as a way to see script blocks easily, but it will be BRILLIANT if it was a dockable (not modal) window that you very quickly select the script blocks in the editor.

I often select parts of a script or subqueries to run - if Summarize Script automatically selected them for me it would be a huge productivity boost: 1-click selection + F5 = AWESOME!

                    • Add an option to Summarize script to show not only the main table, but also all other joined tables

Add an option to Summarize script feature to show not only the main table, but also all other joined tables

For example with option off (current release)

                      select from tablea
                      update tableb
                      delete from tablec

Turning option on would result in

                      select from tablea
                      join tablex
                      update tableb
                      join tablex, tablec, tablej
                      delete from tablec
                      join tableb
