  1. Purge tabs

At the moment to purge old tabs you need to open the tab history window and scroll to a certain point and right click and choose "Remove tabs older than this"

This can be a bit tricky so instead could we have a button (perhaps in options?) that will prompt you for a date and purge items last closed before that date.

  2. Add a "Copy Filename" and "Copy Filename and Path" option to Tab History

There are times when want to be able to reference a specific file name in, for example, bug reports. This option is to allow the selected filename (or filename with path) to be copied so that is can be pasted into other documentation.

  3. Allow tab history to stay open

I want to be able to keep my tab history open. I am rebuilding a lost development database and using search a LOT, but after I search, find a tab I want to look at more deeply or execute, the window disappears and my search predicate and place in the list of matching tabs is lost, so I have to enter search predicate and scroll back down each time. This is a VERY useful tool, but it would be so much more useful if I could just keep it open.

  4. Tab History

Tab history grows considerable with tabs that you don't care about. How about a hot key combination so that when the tab is closed it does not add it to history. Example: While holding the ctrl key down I close a tab and this prevents it from being added to history.

  5. SQL Prompt -> Tab History -> add datetime stamp column

Currently it shows the filename and servername, but it would really help to have the datetime of when it was executed. Sorting the columns would be an added benefit as well.

  7. Tab History Cloud Sync

Option to sync/store tab history in the cloud, network share, or online share (aka One drive, Google drive, dropbox, etc.) That way you don't loose your history when you upgrade or change your computer and have to start all over again. It would also be nice to be able to sync between multiple computers.

  8. Keep pinned status

In SSMS 2016 you can now Pin tabs. When you close and re-open SSMS, it would be good if Tab History could remember, and restore, the pin status for each of the tabs as they are being restored.

  9. Tab Groups

Add the ability to define groups of tabs that are used regularly for different jobs. For instance--there is a group of scripts I use for month end processing and a completely different set of scripts I typically have open for daily processing. Monthly statement preparation and troubleshooting comprise another set of scripts. I'd like to be able to name groups of tabs and retrieve them based on that named grouping, while still being able to go back to what I was doing before the "interruption" that caused me to need a different set of tabs open.

  10. Improved Tab Navigation

Provide a better tab list for navigation than the one supplied by SSMS when there are many tabs open, for instance a resizable "navigation" window (or even a navigation tab) that easily allows filtering/grouping by server instance, database, user defined, etc.

As a complement to grouping tabs would be to allow naming, saving, closing, and opening of a "tab group" - related queries/script files that do not make up an SSMS "project" but are used for a particular purpose or go against a particular database, etc (user determines grouping criteria, see above). Furthermore, activating a tab group would bring its…
