  1. Provide optional colors for Warnings & Highlighting > highlighting

Options, Warnings & Highlighting, Highlighting. The light gray does not work well on a black background. I'd like to be able to select another color for that feature.

  2. Load tabs into prior windows on SSMS startup

Currently I have query tabs in two separate windows within SSMS to view data and queries side by side. After closing and re-opening, it would be great if these segregated tabs went back into their appropriate windows. Along with that, it would be great if it would only load back in the tabs for the server we are connected too. Not also the tabs that I had open in a different instance of SSMS to a different server; which I had displayed on a different monitor for more side by side viewing.

  3. Turn off notifications such as "Slow cached time detected".

Have the ability to turn off notifications such as "Slow cached time detected". I see it every time I connect to a database - and I work with every element in the db's so I want it all to be cached. But I do not want to see this notification every single time.

  4. Open a pre-configured list of servers in Object Explorer when SSMS starts

In the setting of SQL Prompt there should be an option to create a list of servers.

When SSMS then starts It should automatically create a connection to this list of servers in Object Explorer.

It would be a great feature, when working with the same servers, it takes a long time to connect to servers everyday when work starts :-)

  5. Misc. UI Improvements

Themes, Dark mode mainly. Ability to add company logo when you log in via browser, like we can in reports.

  6. SQL Prompt storage of settings

As we are using a dedicated group of virtual machines for using our high privilege accounts, we don't know at login time on which machine we will have a session. Currently the settings of SQL Prompt are stored under “…\AppData\Local\...”. After each logoff we loose these settings. According to the Microsoft standards, the settings should be stored under “…\Appdata\Roaming\...”. Could this be changed in a future version?

  7. Additional syntax coloring - override SSMS

So I'm not sure if this is something that SQL Prompt has the ability to do or not as far as access to SSMS.

When you customize syntax coloring in SSMS, it sees variables, tables, column names, etc all as the same thing...."Identifiers"....I would love it if I were able to specify a different coloring scheme for variables, separate from the rest of the identifiers.

  8. filter snippets between default and custom

Ability to easily identify user-created snippets from default Redgate snippets.

I love snippets and I create a ton of them, but there's no easy way for me to filter the list of snippets to see which ones I created vs the ones that shipped with the product. I'd love the ability to be able to filter the list of snippets to show my custom snippets so I can find them easily.

(My work around is just to use a naming convention that groups them all, but this feels inefficient because it requires that I type more letters to activate the…

  9. Control D to duplicate selected text

When text is selected, Control D would create a copy of that text. If no text is selected, the current line of the cursor will be duplicated.

Much like the behavior of Excel to carry down cell values (and a popular Visual Studio plugin), this will allow users to keep the text on their clipboard to paste it over part of the SQL that was just duplicated (like the contents of a where clause).

  10. Shift-F5: ignore other syntax errors

Current behaviour: let's say we're editing a multi-statement script. The cursor is in the middle of one of the statements. Some other statements in the script are broken (i.e. have invalid syntax) but the one under the cursor is perfectly valid. We hit Shift-F5, expecting the current statement to be executed. Instead, we get a syntax error on some other piece of the script half a mile down the screen.

Expected behavior: just run whatever is under the cursor and ignore all other parts of the script.

  12. Disable auto update check on startup

It would be nice if we can turn off the auto update check for a new version on start-up. This check is happening in the Visual Studio database project and in SSMS. I'd like to disable it. Thanks!

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for the suggestion. Would you be able to tell us a little more about your use case – what is the problem we can help solve by providing this option? Why do you want to disable it?

    Tim

  13. Open Transaction Warning

Occasionally, developers working in SSMS accidentally leave transactions open. This causes big issues, of course. SSMS lets the user know if they try to close a tab with an uncommitted transaction, but only when the user tries to close the tab.

I would like a feature in SQL Prompt so that it lets the user know that they have an uncommitted transaction. SQL Prompt could prompt the user via a toast pop-up or coloring the connection tab or something

  14. Include BEGIN TRANSACTION with "Execute Current Statement" (Shift-F5)

While using Shift-F5 to execute the current statement, any BEGIN TRANSACTIONS above your UPDATE are ignored, running it not in a transaction.
I shouldn't use Shift-F5 probably, but it's becoming a habit and could be very expensive when forgetting to highlight-execute.

  15. Change the activation model to allow easier portability

As a consultant I move around to many computers. I depend on this product, but it is often a chore to keep track of where it is active. It would be a real quality of life improvement if I could just login to the machine I'm using and type in my redgate creds to activate sql prompt and get on with it. So often I'm running into an activation error, followed by a support call to find where the product is in use, then deactivate it, the activate on the new machine repeat, repeat, repeat...

    I understand you make money…

  16. Allow importing of .settings file, and setting Code formatting/snippets folders and default formatting style to be done via Command line

I would like to be able to better automate our onboarding process for new developers by helping ensure their snippets folder, formatting style folder and default formatting style are correctly setup. Additionally we would like to be able to automatically import settings from UNC/source control for them. This reduces the inevitability that something is missed when trying to follow a setup guide we have to additionally maintain. Thanks!

  17. Stop resetting defaults (like paths) with every Update

I spent a lot of time setting up custom directories for various products/features and its frustrating how SQL Prompt resets this with each new update forcing me to go back and change all these paths/defaults back to what they were before.

  18. SSMS - object list - filter from clipboard

In the right-click menu of the "Tables" branch in SSMS, create an extra item that would retrieve string from system clipboard and apply it as an object name filter (using the SSMS built-in [Filter] => [Filter settings] => [Name] => [Contains] feature).

This would allow for instant filtering, saving lot of time.

  19. Make Ctrl-Y repeat last action

I use actions (from the ctrl menu) a lot. It would be extremely handy if I could re-do last action on the currently selected text by simply hitting Ctrl-Y (rather than hitting Ctrl and selecting it from the list of actions again and again).

  20. Make a

Similar to visual studio code, it would be good to have a find and replace all occurrences by highlighting what you would like to replace. This would then give you the option to type in what you want to replace. I know Sql Server has a find and replace function, however I just really like this functionality and think it would be a great addition to SQL prompt
