  1. In SSMS 2016 you can now Pin tabs. When you close and re-open SSMS, it would be good if Tab History could remember, and restore, the pin status for each of the tabs as they are being restored.

  2. Option to sync/store tab history in the cloud, network share, or online share (aka One drive, Google drive, dropbox, etc.) That way you don't loose your history when you upgrade or change your computer and have to start all over again. It would also be nice to be able to sync between multiple computers.

  3. Add the ability to define groups of tabs that are used regularly for different jobs. For instance--there is a group of scripts I use for month end processing and a completely different set of scripts I typically have open for daily processing. Monthly statement preparation and troubleshooting comprise another set of scripts. I'd like to be able to name groups of tabs and retrieve them based on that named grouping, while still being able to go back to what I was doing before the "interruption" that caused me to need a different set of tabs open.

  4. Provide a better tab list for navigation than the one supplied by SSMS when there are many tabs open, for instance a resizable "navigation" window (or even a navigation tab) that easily allows filtering/grouping by server instance, database, user defined, etc.

As a complement to grouping tabs would be to allow naming, saving, closing, and opening of a "tab group" - related queries/script files that do not make up an SSMS "project" but are used for a particular purpose or go against a particular database, etc (user determines grouping criteria, see above). Furthermore, activating a tab group would bring its…

  5. I want to be able to keep my tab history open. I am rebuilding a lost development database and using search a LOT, but after I search, find a tab I want to look at more deeply or execute, the window disappears and my search predicate and place in the list of matching tabs is lost, so I have to enter search predicate and scroll back down each time. This is a VERY useful tool, but it would be so much more useful if I could just keep it open.

  6. It would be nice to search for multiple keywords in the Tab History. For example, I know I had a script to insert data from TableA to TableB, but I searching for TableA or TableB yields to much result (both are frequently use tables). Searching for "TableA, TableB" or "TableA*TableB" would be a good quality of life feature.

  7. Have the ability to delete duplicate scripts in the Tab History. Example I may open a stored procedure to look at it or modify then close and then it is stored in the Tab History as Closed. But then in a few days or so I open the same store procedure and do the same thing it is now in the Tab History also. I have made no changes to either day it is open then closed but, it's in the Tab History twice. Now think about this over a few months. That Tab History grows with duplicate scripts.

  8. I use Tab History quite a bit, and I often find myself seeing 2 or more tabs that have the search criteria I'm after. Rather than just being able to click one tab to open it, it'd be nice to be able to select multiple tabs from the history (some or all of the result list). The amount I use it daily and the amount I need to open 2 or more tabs from a search this sort of functionality would save me the repetitive task of performing the same search over and over to get each tab open that…

  9. I use Tab History daily and have come to rely on it to find queries that I thought I was only going to need one time, but end up needing again. It would be great if you could use other things to search instead of just keyword. I would like to be able to select a date or date range (for example, I know I ran that query last month, or 3 months ago) and server (we have multiple servers with the same data sets so it would be nice to be able to filter to the server you know…

  10. Hi, the possibility to sort/show tabs with the same code. Then you can delete history if you have more than one tab with the same code. This will make history smaller and faster.

  11. I'm a "messy" developer who leaves dozens of tabs open while I'm working on a project, only occasionally doing a bit of a spring clean by closing what I don't need. I only just realised I can do this in Tab History by filtering for Open tabs and right-clicking on a tab entry and choosing Close from the context menu. And I love the fact that I get a preview just by hovering over the name so I can quickly decide whether or not to close each tab.

I would like to see a cross (close) symbol added to the…

  12. Tab history grows considerable with tabs that you don't care about. How about a hot key combination so that when the tab is closed it does not add it to history. Example: While holding the ctrl key down I close a tab and this prevents it from being added to history.

  13. It would be nice to have an ability to use either CTRL + click and SHIFT + click combos or to have check boxes there in order to select multiple closed scripts for a removal from Tab History instead of repeatedly hitting Remove context menu choice. It should save developer's time. Check boxes would be even better implementation choice, because that way you can apply context menu choice to a selection of scripts. Yay!
    Thanks!

  14. Add an option to filter what tabs are moved into history.

    • SSMS autogenerated queries are of no interest.
    • So are simple DML and EXEC[UTE] queries consisting of one statement.
    • Successful executed ALTER {PROC|VIEW} are of no interest.

Optionally calculate a query complexity value or class to hide simple queries.

  15. Add a configuration option to automatically delete tabs by age (last executed or tab closed).

Or move them outside the normal tab history (archive them) to speed up the normal history loading and searching.

  16. I'd like to see a right-click on a tab or the tab-bar and have the option to "reopen closed tab" (and the ability to do that several times through working back through the order the tabs were closed). Same functionality as the major web browsers have.

  17. I would like a hot key combination to send the contents of my current tab to 'Tab History' without having to close the tab. There are times that I know I will need the contents of the tab in the near future (within a few hours/days) and I don't want to have to save a hard copy to my disk.

  18. At the moment to purge old tabs you need to open the tab history window and scroll to a certain point and right click and choose "Remove tabs older than this"

This can be a bit tricky so instead could we have a button (perhaps in options?) that will prompt you for a date and purge items last closed before that date.

  19. Currently it shows the filename and servername, but it would really help to have the datetime of when it was executed. Sorting the columns would be an added benefit as well.
