Disable auto update check on startup
It would be nice if we can turn off the auto update check for a new version on start-up. This check is happening in the Visual Studio database project and in SSMS. I'd like to disable it. Thanks!
In Prompt 10.0.11 we added a new option to the help menu called ‘update notification frequency’. This will allow you to reduce the frequency of updates all the way down to major versions only (one update a year).

No such option in 10.14.7.6275. Reopen this suggestion.

I also don't see 'update notification frequency' in the Help menu... and yes, the updates are FAR too frequent, it's VERY annoying.

I don't see any 'update notification frequency' in the Help menu, and I have version 10.7.3.23021. The update frequency is out of control; it tells a lot about the quality of the SQL Prompt releases.

Nagging people to give you money isn't the way to convince people to give you money. And solutions such as "to reduce the nagging upgrade to our new version which is the one we're nagging you about" isn't the professional solution I was expecting.

The 'Remind Me' feature is not working and this pop-up window is a pest. Disable ASAP.

In Citrix environment the Popup for software updates have to be disabled. Users musn't have permission to install any updates in multi user environment.
So please give us the possibility to deactivate this popup. -

What this is is basically spam trying to get you to pay for an upgrade. SHAME ON YOU REDGATE. There is no other piece of software I use that is so annoying. The only thing that comes close to having as many updates is VSCode, and it is not only free, but has settings that allow you to easily disable update checks.
I see this has been in review for 5 months now, so I'm guessing the money they are making from this SPAM is enough to justify developer dissatisfaction. It's not about providing the best developer experience, but solely about numbers. That's how companies slide into obscurity.
Who wants to help me write an open source competitor to SQLPrompt?

My team uses RedGate Prompt and we were just talking about this. The frequency of updates that RedGate pushes is just too much. We've actually been prompted for updates more than once in a single day before.
I can't help but think that it would help for updates to slow down a bit, do weekly roll-ups and spend more time in QA rather than rushing everything out to every user and then needing to release 5 bugfix updates sequentially over the course of 2 weeks when a single update would have been possible (and preferable).
But in any case, with this update feature and the current pace, we need a way to turn this off or adjust update check frequency. I don't notice the startup time impact as much, but every RedGate user I know agrees the interruption for updates is just too much - and more than we see with other dev tooling vendors by far.

Here is another use case: RedGate hosted by a bastion server in a cloud environment. On first launch for each session, the check for updates can take over a minute. By policy, our updates are managed by the administrator, and not by individual users, so an individual user should not see the option.
Our DBAs love RedGate and say they can't live without it, but this feature is causing a huge headache for our organization. We urgently need a way to disable this feature for all users, maybe with a registry setting.

Software should be helpful, not annoying. I've grown to like SQL Prompt, but the constant update nagging is leaving a sour taste in my mouth.

Redgate's (Tim's) response is pretty silly. Use case: launching my IDE. Problem to solve: update prompt is annoying and slows down startup. Why: time is valuable; many of us can't/won't be updating any time soon, so the alerts don't help at all; because the frequency of your updates merits needing to be able to disable the alerts.
If/when Redgate implements it, they need to either make it a minor update for older versions — not just version 10 — or provide instructions on how we can manually apply the fix.
EDIT: Brad's comment below seems like a very sensible solution.

We have the same problem in our company. And we need this "turn off update notification"-feature in the old version 9.X too. Our Licence is only valid for this older version (10 is the current one). This "feature" was introduced in the 9er version and to disable it in this 9er version.

I do not want to update, I'm happy with the version I have. Especially with a new major version released that gives me nothing. Every time you release a new version I get a popup. Please let the customers decide how and when to update. Not every user is able to update by themselves due to policies.
